From the 1990s onwards, the effects of digitalization began to manifest in urban lighting. Thanks to centralized control panels and programmable timers, lamps became manageable remotely in groups. This period marked the beginning of the first efficient steps in energy management and fault tracking.
The Birth of Smart Lighting Systems
Starting from the 2010s, with the development of IoT (Internet of Things) technologies, light poles began to become 'smart.' Wireless communication protocols like LoRaWAN enable each pole to be monitored individually, dimmed, and to send data. This transformation represents not only energy savings but also a significant step in terms of urban safety and sustainability.

Today, lighting systems do not just emit light; they measure air quality, monitor traffic flow, and communicate information in emergencies. Smart poles, which play an important role in the digitization of urban infrastructure, will become the cornerstone of cities with more sensors, greater integration, and higher data capacity in the future.
